Here is a first prototype of Porsche's all-new Boxster Coupe.
Here is a first prototype of Porsche's all-new Boxster Coupe. The new coupe will come on the market in 2005 in addition to the roadster, which will also feature an all-new front end with new headlights and a new rear end.
The prototype on the photos is cleverly disguised and can easily be mistaken for a 997 Turbo. However, the small triangular rear-side windows, which are taped shut, are telling it is not. The Boxster Coupe will have three large air intakes in the front skirt and wider fenders and track. Porsche is likely to make 17-inch wheels standard at last, with 18s as an option.
The affordable new coupe is going to be Porsche's entry-level model as a rival to Audi's TT V-6, the Mercedes SLK, Nissan 350Z, and Mazda's RX-8. Power for the standard version will come from a 2.7-liter engine with 240 hp; in the S version it may reach 270 to 280 hp and propel the car to an estimated top speed of 250 km/h. A 3.4-liter engine with 300 hp is also rumored.
At the time being it is not known whether Porsche will release this car or the new 997 first.
For those who are impatient, here is a first preview/spyshot.
